Q(Question). Was there a particular reason you decided to manage your weight?
I turned 50 this year. A few years ago I went through kidney cancer surgery, after which my stamina dropped sharply, and the weight that unkindly piled on took away my everyday energy and even my confidence. Rather than out of a desire to simply lose weight, I started this program with an earnest wish to 'feel alive and vital again.'
Q(Question). Having been through major surgery, I imagine you had to be careful with your health.
That is right. I completely let go of any impatience, worried that an extreme diet might do more harm than good. Instead of starving myself, I sorted out my eating habits, sleep and daily patterns one by one, and kept losing and maintaining for eight months. Rather than a painful diet, it was closer to a 'tune-up for the body,' cleaning and tightening an engine that had stalled.
Q(Question). When you decided to lose weight, did you consider getting help from the popular drugs like Wegovy or Mounjaro?
Since I had been ill, my body always felt heavy, so honestly I was briefly tempted by injections that promised to be easy and fast. But my body had already been through major surgery. I worried whether my weakened body could handle the nausea or indigestion that obesity medications tend to cause. More than anything, if you suppress appetite and lose weight quickly, precious muscle goes along with the fat. My basic stamina was already at rock bottom, and I was afraid it would collapse further and that my face would look gaunt and aged. My goal was not simple 'weight loss' but recovering 'healthy vitality,' so I concluded that such artificial methods were not for me.
Q(Question). After eight months of effort, what has changed the most?
In the end I lost 4kg of body fat, but what is more remarkable than the number is that the landscape of my daily life has changed. Waking up in the morning is far easier, and the basic stamina to get through a day has improved beyond recognition. I used to be tired all the time, but now there are many days when I think to myself, 'I feel really good today.'
Q(Question). What are your goals or resolutions going forward?
Now that I am gradually recovering the stamina and confidence I had lost, my goal is to carefully maintain this healthy state rather than push for more. For me this was not simple weight loss but a precious 'journey of recovery' that brought the vitality of my life back into bloom.
