The 2014 College Scholastic Ability Test has finally come to an end. With many test takers excitedly planning the things they had put off while studying, a survey by one portal site asking test takers what they most wanted to do after the exam put “grooming their appearance”, including “dieting and plastic surgery”, in first place. According to one official, in November, when the exam ends, the number of consultations does in fact rise compared with the previous month. A, a young woman about to enter university, is one such case, receiving consultations with specialist medical staff for facial contouring surgery after the exam. Her prominent cheekbones made her look severe and older, and although she had used beauty devices and had massages for a long time, there was no satisfying result, so she decided on surgery. A said, “A clean appearance matters for freshman life, part-time work and other outside activities, and above all I could not spend my campus life feeling low because of the self-esteem lost to insecurity about my appearance, so I made the difficult decision to have surgery,” adding, “I am worried about cheek sagging after surgery, so I am looking into it carefully, focusing on safe surgical methods that can prevent such side effects.” According to Dr. Yoosuk Chung of the Facial Contouring Centre at TheLINE Plastic Surgery, facial contouring surgery such as cheekbone reduction can now be performed more accurately by confirming the patient's own facial bones through 3D-CT analysis before surgery. Because plastic surgery must be built on “safety”, individually tailored surgery suited to the overall face shape is carried out safely, and side effects such as cheek sagging after contouring surgery can be prevented as far as possible.

Blood vessels, soft tissue and bone tissue at the surgical site are identified in real time so that minimal dissection and micro-incisions are made only where necessary, raising surgical safety and minimising the recovery period. Soft tissue with little skin ageing and good cohesion recovers quickly, but sagging after surgery is a concern. Using upward tight fixation during surgery to fix the soft tissue and cheekbone firmly upward eases worries about cheek sagging and preserves facial volume as well.
Dr. Soyoung Lee of the clinic said, “In facial contouring revision surgery as well, 3D-CT analysis can diagnose the exact cause of the failed operation and upward tight fixation can prevent side effects, raising satisfaction with the surgery,” adding, “It is important to avoid side effects such as cheek sagging caused by unconditional cheekbone reduction and to raise satisfaction, through consultation and precise diagnostic analysis with a specialist who has long surgical experience and know-how.” Reporter Sujin Kim sjkimcap@beautyhankook.com
