JCI, the international healthcare accreditation commission recognized by the WHO (World Health Organization), is an affiliate of The Joint Commission, the US healthcare accreditation body, and was established in the US in 1994 to evaluate and accredit hospitals within the United States. It objectively measures and documents the level of medical services and drives continuous improvement so that patients can receive the best possible care in a safe environment, issuing certificates to healthcare institutions worldwide only after a demanding review. TheLINE Plastic Surgery underwent its on-site survey in 2015 against the more stringent 5th edition of the JCI standards. The 5th revised edition of the JCI accreditation standards consists of 304 rigorous standards and 1,222 measurable elements. It added sections on medical staff education and human subjects research, and tightened the requirements for patient safety and quality improvement. TheLINE stated that it earned the certificate after having its value and qualifications assessed from multiple angles, from a safe medical environment and care system built solely around the patient, through to medical education and clinical research. The clinic said, "It is deeply meaningful to have completed the 'JCI' accreditation review under the more demanding 5th edition of the standards and to receive the certificate from what is the most internationally credible healthcare evaluation body," adding, "There were press reports that during the MERS (Middle East Respiratory Syndrome) outbreak, Seoul St. Mary's Hospital and Ewha Medical Center, which followed the infection control manuals they had rehearsed while preparing for JCI accreditation, successfully prevented the spread of MERS within their hospitals, so we plan to keep working steadily toward re-accreditation."
